Split PDF
All localSeparate a PDF into multiple files, by page or by range. Everything happens in your browser — your files never leave your computer.
Drag your PDF here
One file at a time. Recommended up to 100 MB.
How it works
Splitting without re-compressing
Pages are copied as they are from the original into the resulting files. Nothing is re-compressed or rasterized: they keep their exact quality. The only difference from the original is how many pages each file carries.
When the original has an index or a form
Interactive indexes and fillable fields don’t survive the split. If your PDF has them we tell you first, because a form that stops being one still looks the same and you would not want to find out later.
Protected PDFs are not processed
A password-protected PDF has to be decrypted before splitting, and that is beyond this tool. Remove the protection with the software that applied it and try again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write the page range? ▾
Commas to separate, hyphens for ranges. Valid examples: “1-5” for the first five, “3, 7, 10” for individual pages, “1-3, 8-10” for two ranges. If you type something that can’t be read, or that falls outside the document, we tell you before processing.
Can I split a PDF of any size? ▾
We recommend up to 100 MB. Larger files may hang the browser on modest devices. The split itself is fast: separating a twenty-page document takes milliseconds, because nothing has to be re-encoded.
Is quality lost when splitting? ▾
No. Pages are copied exactly as they are, with no re-compression or rasterizing. The only difference between the original and the split files is that each one has fewer pages.
Are bookmarks and forms preserved? ▾
No. It is a limitation of processing PDFs in the browser, not a choice of ours. We warn you beforehand if your PDF contains either, and you decide whether to continue.
What if I need to merge PDFs instead of splitting? ▾
Use our Merge PDF tool: it combines several PDFs into one, in the order you choose. And if one of the resulting files ends up too heavy, you can run it through Compress PDF.
